Skin Healing SalveA soothing skin healing salve for minor abrasions and scabbed over wounds. Let wounds drain and close on their own before sealing them off with a formula that contains wax. ½ oz powdered Comfrey root
Measure oil into double boiler or crockpot with a dimmer switch, bring temperature to between 80-100 degrees, no higher. Break herbs into small pieces and stir into oil. Heat this mixture uncovered, at this temperature, for 2-48 hours. Length of time is determined by how quickly the herbs loose their color and by the scent of the mixture. Check the temperature with a candy thermometer.
Strain the herbs, first through a strainer, then cheesecloth, so there is no grit. Return the oil to the pot. Melt the beeswax in a small saucepan then add to the herbs and reheat. Mix well and test for consistency by pouring a small amount into a spoon. It should harden so that if you tip the spoon it will not run out. Pour the melted liquid into jars, the mixture will set as it cools. In warm climates you may need to add more wax to keep it solid, cool climates may require less wax. Stir in essential oil and 1 drop of Benzoin per each ounce of base (olive oil). |
